Henriette

The Henriette gown is built from three pieces, and each one changes the silhouette. The dress underneath is fitted lace, worked with pearl beads and fine sequins, sheer at the yoke and lined in warm nude, with a high lace collar that stands at the neck, sharply built shoulders that square the line of the bodice, and long sheer sleeves finished in scalloped eyelash lace. The same scalloped edge runs along the hem, which extends into a soft sweeping train. Over the dress sits a corset, shaped by vertical panel seams, cut straight across the bust with no straps of its own so the beaded lace shows above it, and dropping to a deep point below the waist at the front. It closes at the back with slim cord lacing that crosses over the lace and ties in a bow. The third piece is a full satin overskirt, pleated into the waist and left open down the centre front so the lace stays in view, opening out behind into a wide train. Worn in full, Henriette has the presence of a ball gown; with the corset and overskirt set aside, the lace dress stands on its own, high-necked and close to the body.
